REMCAN is seeking Railway Labourers for our 2025 season for projects throughout Canada. We are looking for full-time, applicants eager to travel on a rotational schedule.  

Job Summary: 

Railway labourers work primarily in our Track Maintenance department. REMCAN’s Track Maintenance department is responsible for all railway track maintenance and construction projects, from new track construction to emergency repairs. The labourer role is an entry-level position where successful candidates will work alongside crews comprised of other laborers, equipment operators, welders, and foremen.  

Role & Responsibilities: 

  • Perform moderate to heavy physical labour, building and maintaining the track and surrounding materials.
  • Replacing and repairing various track components including rails and railway ties.
  • Use of hand and power tools to provide track maintenance and repairs. 
  • Responding to emergencies and track outages (on-call).
  • Maintain REMCAN policies and guidelines at all times.

Qualifications: 

  • Minimum 1-year labour experience is preferred.
  • Previous rail and/or equipment operating experience considered an asset.
  • Valid Class 5 or Class G driver’s license, and reliable transportation.
  • Produce a 3-year driver’s abstract.
  • Pass eRailSafe Canada workforce compliance system.
  • Complete pre-employment medical which includes screening for alcohol and drugs (including marijuana and THC).
  • First Aid and previous safety training are considered assets (WHMIS, Fall Protection, Confined Space Entry).
  • Demonstrate an ability to work unsupervised, as well as in teams.
  • Work all types of shifts as required, including weekends and night shifts.
  • Work in various weather conditions all year round.
  • Travel to remote work locations as required.
