REMCAN is seeking Signals and Communication Maintainers for our 2025 season for projects throughout Canada. We are looking for full-time, applicants eager to travel on a rotational schedule.
Job Summary:
Signals and Communications Maintainers work primarily in our Signals and Communications (S&C) department. REMCAN's S&C department is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing railroad signaling and communications equipment as well as emergencies and track outages. The S&C Maintainer role is a position designed for experienced S&C Maintainers who have completed an S&C apprenticeship with another railway or railway contractor. Successful candidates will work alongside crews comprised of Labourers, S&C Apprentices, other S&C Maintainers, Equipment Operators, and Foremen.
Role & Responsibilities:
- Actively participate and conduct safety briefings.
- Test and verify correct operation of signals and communications systems.
- Perform preventative maintenance on various S&C apparatuses, such as crossing warning systems, switch machines, and signal systems.
- Respond to railway system failures, diagnose and repair/replace equipment as needed.
- Provide mentorship to S&C Apprentices.
- Maintain documents, records, and reports as required, such as timesheets and records of inspection.
- Deactivate and remove S&C equipment as needed for production crews.
- Operate company vehicles and hi-rail trucks.
- Responding to emergencies and track outages (on-call).
- Maintain REMCAN policies and guidelines at all times.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 2 years' rail experience installing and/or maintaining S&C systems.
- Previous rail and/or equipment operating experience considered an asset.
- Valid Class 5 or Class G driver's license, and reliable transportation.
- Produce a 3-year driver's abstract.
- Pass eRailSafe Canada workforce compliance system.
- Complete pre-employment medical which includes screening for alcohol and drugs (including marijuana and THC).
- First Aid and previous safety training are considered assets (WHMIS, Fall Protection, Confined Space Entry).
- Demonstrate an ability to work unsupervised, as well as in teams.
- Work all types of shifts as required, including weekends and night shifts.
- Work in various weather conditions all year round.
- Travel to remote work locations as required.
