Chief Operator Position (Ultrasonic Testing)

Ultra-Traxx Inc. strives to provide a high-quality service with great integrity while performing non-destructive rail testing (NDT) services for its customers all over North America.

Job Description:

The chief operator will operate the Rail flaw detection unit and be in contact with clients on site, leading and performing Ultrasonic testing services with a high level of commitment to ensure compliance with all applicable codes and standards that apply.

Having experience with Ultrasonic Testing (UT) or in the rail industry is an asset, we are open to individuals with experience in either of the industries.

Responsibilities:

  • Operate and maintain rail flaw detector vehicle while being able to perform reporting procedures required by the company and customer.

  • Perform all functions of flaw detection processes, including data interpretation, hand testing, and flaw classification.

  • Comply with Ultra-Traxx and customer specific procedures and safety regulations.

  • Maintain and organized all equipment.

  • Able to lead and assist other while providing instruction to fellow crew members concerning all policies, guidelines, and procedures specific to the customer.

  • Provide guidance and mentorship to Assistants and Trainees.

Basic skills required:

  • Ability to read instructions and follow technical specifications.

  • Have a good understanding of computers and computer programs.

  • Able to understand safety regulations, safe work practices and work procedures and be capable of assisting in maintaining safe work sites.

Proficiency in the safe operation and maintenance of equipment and tools used for everyday use.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Level 1 Ultrasonic Testing training or Certification minimum, Level 2 preferred.

  • 1 – 3 years’ experience performing ultrasonic testing.

  • Must have a valid Class 5 license.

  • Able to work outside of Canada if required.

  • Able to pass a “Fit for Duty” and “Drug and Alcohol” test if requested.

  • Knowledge of the railroad industry would be an asset but not required.

Working Conditions:

Most of the work will be completed in the field across Canada or the United States, however; some office, customer visits, and meetings will be required as needed. This position requires you to travel, so working out of town is necessary in order to complete all requirements of the position along with working outside sometimes in extreme weather conditions.
