Canadian Co-Chair, Coalition for North American TradeSteve Verheul is a Principal with GT & Company Executive Advisors and President of Steve Verheul Consulting Inc. He is also a Fellow of the Public Policy Forum and serves as the Canadian Co-Chair of the Coalition for North American Trade.
Prior to retiring from the federal public service in 2022, Steve held several senior leadership roles within the Government of Canada, including Assistant Deputy Minister of the Trade Policy and Negotiations Branch at Global Affairs Canada. As Canada’s Chief Trade Negotiator, he led negotiations for the Canada–United States–Mexico Agreement (CUSMA), as well as the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) between Canada and the European Union.
From 1989 to 2009, Steve worked in international trade policy at Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada. He served as Canada’s Chief Agriculture Negotiator from 2003 to 2009, where he was responsible for leading Canada’s participation in global agricultural trade negotiations.
