The Mongolian government has several large infrastructure plans in the works, including the construction of a new international airport, a north-to-south cross-country highway, as well as ambitious plans to enhance its rail transportation network. In addition, the country is the recipient of a large amount of foreign and IFI aid, much of which is concentrated on infrastructure development projects. While much of the aid will be "tied" to varying degrees, we see opportunities for Canadian engineering companies either at the feasibility study stage or as sub-contractors in areas of distinct Canadian expertise, such as permafrost road and rail construction, remote area infrastructure development, etc. We will assess what the true nature of opportunities for Canada in this sector are over the coming months, but believe that it is worthy of priority sector focus at the outset in order to quickly identify and seize opportunities as some of these large projects start to come on line.
