REMCAN Has Been Awarded The CARS 2022 Diversity Award – Third Year in a Row

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

[Ottawa, December 20th, 2022]. The Canadian Association of Railway Suppliers (CARS) has named REMCAN as the winner of the 2022 Diversity Awards. This award is to recognize and celebrate businesses that champion diversity in their companies and leaders for developing and cultivating diversity strategies in their organization, in addition to communicating the rationale for these strategies to employees.

"REMCAN is honoured to have been selected as the recipient for the CARS 2022 Diversity Award.  We are proud of the work that all REMCAN employees have done in this space and are looking forward to specifically what our reconciliation journey brings us in the coming years.  It is important for us, and all businesses in Canada to take the time, to be patient in building respectful and genuine relationships, and be ready to learn.” – Jason Thomas, President, REMCAN Projects LP

Recently REMCAN earned their Bronze level in the PAR (Progressive Aboriginal Relations) program, which is the highest of any contractor in Canada. They belong to and support a number of Indigenous affiliations and are setting a great example of how to build authentic relationship with Canada’s Indigenous peoples. Additionally, they work hard to ensure inclusivity and diversity for all in other areas throughout all levels of their business.

“The core of REMCAN’s focus is not to gain businesses but to be good stewards, help build the reputation of the rail industry and set an example of what business can and should be doing in the area of diversity and fair opportunity for all. They are one of the industry leaders when it comes to their work and support of the Indigenous peoples in Canada.” - Sylvia Newell, President, CARS

Because of REMCAN’s ongoing work in this space, mandatory Cultural Awareness training has been implemented as part of the onboarding process for all new hires.  New hires learn very early on the importance of reconciliation for all REMCAN employees and understand our commitment with the CCAB.  REMCAN ensures that employees understand, this is the right thing to do in terms of personal and corporate steps towards reconciliation.

REMCAN is committed to diversifying its workforce and truly reflecting the communities where we work.  REMCAN is an inclusive employer who prides itself on creating a culture of diversity and championing those underrepresented in the rail industry.
