SPANISH COMPANY SEEKING PARTNERSHIP WITH CANADIAN COMPANY FOR A RAILWAYS JOINT VENTURE IN THE U.S.

RENFE, a Spanish state-owned company in the passenger and freight transport services, is seeking Canadian companies interested in participating in the procurement process for rail operations, maintenance and support services launched by Metrolink, the Southern California Regional Rail Authority (see attached RFP).

Basically, the contract is for the operation and maintenance of the Metrolink network of the Southern California Regional Rail Authority for 10 years.

RENFE wants to promote a joint venture with a Canadian railway operator, preferably passenger railways but also freight railways, and with railway maintenance companies from Canada.

The project for a 10 year contract involves a network of 7 routes for 535 miles, 388 miles excluding shared miles, 61 stations and 38,499 riders on average on weekdays.

Renfe is a Spanish state-owned company, attached to the Ministry of public Works which mission is to provide passenger and freight transport services, guided by the principles of safety, quality, efficiency, profitability and innovation, with a public service vocation and pursuing an increase in the market share for railways as a benchmark railway operator. The Renfe group and its companies are based around four business areas: passenger transport and marketing associated products in metropolitan, regional, national and international settings (Renfe Viajeros), freight transport and logistics services (Renfe Mercancías), maintenance and industrial work (Renfe Fabricación y Mantenimiento), and managing rolling stock for hire (Renfe Alquiler de Material Ferroviario).

In 2018, the turnover was 3.9 billion €, and the profit was around 100M €.
