PUBLIC NOTICE:  Update of Transport Canada Standard TP 14850

Background

The Transportation of Dangerous Goods Directorate will begin work on a new edition of Transport Canada Standard TP 14850 Small Containers for Transportation of Dangerous Goods, Classes 3, 4, 5, 6.1, 8, and 9 (the Standard) to align with the most recent chapter 6.1 of the United Nations Model Regulations for the Transport of Dangerous Goods (Orange Book). The Standard is referenced in the Transportation of Dangerous Goods Regulations and was first published in 2010. The Standard will be updated through consultations with a committee of experts for which we are seeking interested parties. The Standard will cover containers with a capacity of 450L or less and 400kg net mass or less.

Technical Committee

To carry out its work, Transport Canada is seeking participants for its TP 14850 Technical committee who can bring their insight, experience and expertise in any of the activities listed below: 

1. Production,      distribution, promotion or retail of small UN containers;
2. Direct use of small UN      containers;
3. Regulation and/or      enforcement of regulations with regards to small UN containers; or
4. Have a general interest      in this Standard with relevant expertise.

Submission of comments

At this time, Transport Canada is seeking initial input and comments to be considered in the development of the new edition of this Standard. AVIS PUBLIC: Mise à jour de la norme TP14850, une norme de Transports Canada

Contexte
La Direction du Transport des marchandises dangereuses débutera bientôt le processus d’élaboration d’une nouvelle édition de la norme TP 14850 Petits contenants pour le transport des marchandises dangereuses des classes 3, 4, 5, 6.1, 8, et 9 (la norme).  Cette nouvelle édition s’harmonisera avec le chapitre 6.1 de la plus récente édition du Règlement type des Nations Unies pour le transport des marchandises dangereuses (livre orange). La norme TP 14850 publiée en 2010 est actuellement incorporée par renvoi dans le règlement sur le transport des marchandises dangereuses.  La mise à jour de la norme sera élaborée grâce à un processus de consultation et un comité d’experts pour lequel nous recherchons des intéressés. La norme portera toujours sur les contenants ayant une capacité inférieure ou égale à 450 L ou une masse nette inférieure ou égale à 400 kg.

Comité technique

Pour mener à bien ses travaux, Transports Canada est à la recherche de participants pour son comité technique TP 14850 pouvant apporter leur connaissance, expérience et expertise dans l’une des activités énumérées ci-dessous : 

1. Production, distribution, promotion ou vente au      détail de petits contenants normalisés ONU;
2. Utilisation directe de petits contenants normalisés      ONU;
3. La réglementation et/ou la mise en application de      règlements concernant les petits contenants normalisés ONU;
4. Intérêt général pour la présente norme et possédant      une expertise pertinente.
